Oatmeal Man

Oatmeal man
arrives at his destination by car,
with another who silently waits.

"There's lots of bread!" he exclaims from behind me.

"There's always lots of bread!" I return.

"That's not so." He counters, never shy about contrariness, another trait that gives away.

"I don't know what some of this is, but it must be edible." I comment on the sacks of dried stuff that litters the tables.

"Are there any more red onions?" he inquires.

"No, just the skins."

"Have some oatmeal!" I say, passing over a box.

"So you know I like oatmeal." He states.

A whisper of memory crosses my mind, of those whose psychic selves predominate.

"Well, I've got my box of goodies." I say as I turn to leave, not yet having caught an image of who this man is.

At the car, I pull out a bunch of celery and wave " Do you need some celery?"

"No". " I enjoyed our meeting and words."

No stranger, We pass seconds, and moments shared.

Do You Know What Love Is?

I have written many songs about love that reaches beyond death, where spirit connects us all.

When does the first breath call?

To the solitary soul where all takes hold, none of us ever owns the other. Love is given. Love remains. Over time and space, whether or not those whom we love are with us in body, we are joined in soul.

When was the first time I realized these truths?

Beyond the need to be loved, the need for any thing, the impulse within to express,

Love begins within the self, from all eternity dwells.

From whence there is no letting go,

From whence there is what I can do for love,

that does not encage,

nor expect anything in return,

cradle of self that creates no hold.

From the light that sets our spirits free,

restricts no be,

the spirit connects.

I do not remember from whence this wisdom comes,

so eternal and deep is it's source,

so open and free,

so ever present,

so all of we.

In the gentle expression of how we each can serve,

comes up through us each.

Expressed in what we do,

that shines from our faces and hearts,

Who we are,

the everyday kindnesses we show to our selves,

our others,

the one that secrets keep,

the part of us that never sleeps.

Do You Know What Love Is?

None can tell you.

All can reap.

California's Endangered Plant Species are featured in this segment, filmed at the University of Santa Cruz Arboretum, with focus on the local plants of the Santa Cruz Area, natives that can be saved through the public's awareness, and action in replanting them, available for purchase at the Arboreatum.

Featured in this segment are Brett Hall, Director of the Arboretum.

The South Africa Lucadendrum opens the segment, because its habitat is also very similar to the Santa Cruz area, and may be planted here.

Capitola by the Sea hosted it's yearly awards banquet on the 100th year anniversary of the International Year of the Woman, and gave three local women awards. The " Ruby Award", once called the " Women Helping Women " Award, was given to Tamara Lynn Scott for her 10 years of self-producing a 4 times weekly, educational, not-for-profit, Broadcast Series that often features women both locally and around the world.

This broadcast is the major commentary of the evening, and features all three of the women awarded.

In addition to the Soroptimist Award, Certificates of Recognition were given from the House of Representatives, the Congress, and the Senate.

On February 20th, I was the featured Poet for Santa Cruz Poetry Group in downtown Santa Cruz, and recorded part of the reading of three selections: "Phoenix Arise!", which was selected as the New Millennium Poem for the San Francisco Bay Area monument to poetry and was given a bronze plate for the monument which rises up out on the Point in Palo Alto California. How can we
As a world of humanity
Endure the Sufferings
Of our fellow humanity,
Without rising to
Overthrow the evil
Which has fostered itself upon us,
And what part out of ourselves?

The delusion of piety
In horrible grimace
Of torture and death,
Demonic,

Holy and good,
That deals to each of us
The wound,

False prophets hide
Under cruel masks of holy,

Ruby Award Continuation of Bio and Resume

As a poet, my most famous works included ' Poem to the People " which you may view on-line as delivered in Washington, D.C. and in Sacramento, and "Phoenix Arise" with monument in Palo Alto shown here on the website, as well as a series of poems created "Poems of the War", here "New World Waits" shown in a Huston publication, but all the above widely posted. "

I have been asked to deliver these three selections on the 20th, as featured poet in the Poetry Corner group of Santa Cruz, downtown library, between 2 to 4 p.m.

Ruby Award

I am being honored with the " Ruby Award " in March of 2011, by the Soroptomists of Santa Cruz.

As such, I have also been invited to share with the community, a bit of my bio, resume, and past accomplishments which have contributed to the educational, Broadcast Cable Series which I create 4 times a week on Cable 27, Santa Cruz.

I have been a performer, composer, lyricist, for most of my life, and have traveled around the world, and country, as a soloist, and with groups of other performers and musicians.

I've worked with some major agencies, recorded with some major labels, and have owned my own publishing company for my original music scores, "Carousel" being recorded by Frank Sinatra. These shots were used during my tours with the Playboy Clubs.

I have also performed on the stages of the world, this shot from a Broadcast I was featured in filmed in Japan, where I spent many months in concerts.

I've been co-owner of a major production and staging company in the San Francisco Bay Area, Audio Visual Associates, creating multi-media, musical themes and performances, sales and marketing materials, and large support programs for conferences.

I am one of the most prolific producers at Community Television, here showing the 150 program mark, with 350 award not shown, and currently have more than 500 thirty minute programs produced for the public.

Many of my clients have been the major corporations of the world, and here are a few letters of comment.

The Hotel Ibis Grand Opening was quite a wonderful show, with 36 projector showing of San Mateo county "I know a Place " - which I created to inspire tourism into the area.

Here are some press releases from the Kick off celebration held in San Mateo County to release the 36 projector presentation, and official new song theme for the area.

I created a similar theme, sales and marketing program for Oakland: " The Bright Side of the Bay".

For Mizuno, I created another 36 projector, multi-media presentation for their convention, with live performances.

I have traveled the world as a stage director, as well as creating the media for the stage, and helped to create the 700 year birthday party for Switzerland.

These programs traveled about in the United States, staged at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and in Phillidelphia, at the Academy of Arts Performance Center.

to Boulder Creek woman to help continue a dream (Rock Island, IL)—

Tamara Lynn Scott, Boulder Creek, was awarded a check for $3,000 from Royal Neighbors of America as part of the organization’s Nation of NeighborsSM Program to help her continue to produce media that matters for not-profit cable broadcasts.

Ms. Scott has produced broadcasts, at her own expense, on such subjects as environmental dangers, healthy foods, and the elimination of hunger. The funds she received will help her continue the work of lifting humanity through educational outreach.

Focusing on its history of standing strong for women, Royal Neighbors has surpassed the $1 million mark assisting more than 800 families and individuals in reaching their goals and rebuilding their lives through its Nation of Neighbors Program. The program, which was launched in 2007, demonstrates the neighbor-helping-neighbor philosophy on which Royal Neighbors was founded in 1895.

Through the 2010 program, determined women of strength and courage are empowered with financial assistance to rise above challenging circumstances, achieve their full potential, and realize a sense of renewed personal growth. Each year, Royal Neighbors members and sales agents across the country are asked to nominate women they know who want to change their lives for the better. A panel reviews each nomination and determines the recipients and the monetary amounts awarded.

As a non-profit fraternal organization, Royal Neighbors of America exists for the benefit of its members. Bob Hansen and his associate Calvin, of Bob's Friendly Tree Service,
continue the process of dismantling a California Oak Tree and descend the tree sawing in 12 inch pieces, dropped into the nest of downed branches which serves protect the deck below, and to allow dropping pieces of wood without needing to rope them.

This segment will take the viewer from the summit of the tree tp the descent and the on the ground work of processing the downed branches into firewood, and stacked on-site to provide animal shelters. All parts of the tree are being used. The leaves will be used to mulch the soil, and the branches will later be used as kindling when dried.

For every tree removed, 10 will be planted in safe locations along the gully, to hold the soil, provide food and shelter for the animals, provide clean oxygen, and shade to cool the earth.

This series of 3 segments will be featuring Bob Hansen of Bob's Friendly Tree Service, a Santa Cruz, California based company that has been in the business of climbing trees for 48 years.

We will be discussing the solutions of putting into law mandatory bombing and fumigation of all containers entering this country with timber as a means of eliminating infestations of beetles and other deadly insects responsible for the killing of thousands of Oak trees. An environmentally friendly treatment being needed to prevent these pests from entering the country. Current laws only specify random checking.

Bob and his assistant Calvin will demonstrate the equipment, ropes, and procedures needed for safely removing an oak tree which is too close to structures and decking.

These programs are available nationwide to all not-for-profit, educational, cable stations at no cost for airings, and will be available for viewing worldwide as historical documents posted to the Permanent Internet Archives.

Capitola, California

This historic Bed and Breakfast is one of two remaining structures of the rail line originally built in the 1860's in Capitola, the Depot built in 1875, and the Trestle. It was originally located at the bottom of the hill where it is currently situated, near the only other remaining structure, the railroad trestle.

When automobiles were developed, and train traffic for passengers ceased to be profitable, Southern Pacific sold this 400 square foot depot to one of its employees for the grand sum of one dollar.

It was moved by hand and horsepower up the hill to sit alongside the railroad, near it's current location, and then moved again and repositioned to face towards the sea when later owners decided to live in it, refurbish and enlarge it, and then create the current Bed and Breakfast.

Currently, the more than 3,000 square foot structure has rooms decorated around the various countries of the world, complete with furnishings and tiles obtained from the various locations.

The thirty minute segment on the Inn discusses the historical background, and the various improvements, along with a peek at a few of the rooms available.

Claire Whitelaw, the current manager of the Inn, demonstrates making one of her favorite desserts, an apple crisp, and Jordan Sinclair, her associate, demonstrates the carmelizing of sugars which top the creme brulee served for the evening dessert.

Wine and cheese, along with Bargetto 2007 Chardennay, and Martinelli's Sparkling Apple cider were being served in the evening at 5 p.m. followed by a dessert of the Creme Brulee at 7 p.m.

The Inn features a 2007 Chardonnay by Bargetto as a consistent line up.

I stayed in the home behind the Inn, which is also available, in the Kyoto room, located on the basement level with traditional Japanese garden outside, the most tranquil of the rooms in my opinion.

A hearty and delicious warm breakfast is served to help get us on our way and down the street to explore the delightful shops of Capitola.

cooks up a 3 way combination plate of burgers presented in open faced fashion which can be combined, stacked, or eaten open faced, in another segment on outdoor cooking and one plate dinners.

Omaha Burgers are featured as one of the meats in this assembly of open faced selections that begin with splitting a large sesame seed bun into 3 sections instead of 2, and toasting to a light brown, utilizing the pizza stone in the Big Green Egg, charcoal ceramic grill.

The serving plate is greened with 2 varieties of Petite Gem Lettuce and the 3 toasted bun parts laid on top.

A large Portebella Mushroom is pan sautéed in garlic and butter, along with sliced Button mushrooms.

Bacon is crisped in a separate pan.

The Omaha Steak Burger is also pan browned and lightly seared to retain its juices.

On one bun the finished Burger is placed, the Portabella on one, and the Button mushrooms on the 3rd.

Bacon tops the Portabella, and the Button Mushrooms.

The Omaha Burger is topped with a few Button Mushrooms.

In a separate saucepan, meanwhile, Roma tomatoes chopped in large chunks, have been reducing with soy sauce, mustard, chopped ginger, onion, and garlic, red wine vinegar, tangerine juice, sugar, parsley, seasoned salt, and sesame seeds until bubbling thick, then used as a hot topping for each of the three.

Cooking in the outdoor kitchen need not suffer in these one plate gourmet burger dinners!

Omaha Steaks provides the tender white chicken breast which has been marinated in a blend of soy sauce, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oils, ginger, garlic, corn syrup, white wine vinegar, and the juices of oranges and mandarins, also used to drizzel over the completed dish.

Artists of Santa Cruz - From the Ground Up - Temple to the Arts

From the Ground Up
by providing the casts of body forms
created by ceramic artist, Richard Smith,
who has finished with these plaster molds
and who is making them available for the
Temple to the Arts being created in the series.
From the Ground Up.

The forms are shown here laid out on recycled pieces of metal roofing, so none of the exterior paint being used to coat the molds goes to waste.

The Paint is recycled paint available from the local landfills, and is being used to stiffen up the molds, protect them from moisture, and will be getting several more applications of various colors to allow them a more appealing and protected surface.

They will be on-hand for the next concrete project, currently being planned to create a pad for the Dimension One Spa, so as not to have any cement wasted.

Once the molds have been filled with cement, they will be positioned about the gardens and roadway access as sculptural forms which can be embedded into retaining walls or as stand alone art.

Shown here is a form of the artist, Tamara Lynn Scott, which she painted in the fire tones of yellow, red, and white, to be utilized as mosaic in the fire circle currently underway.

is focused on cooking out of doors,
where multiple plate services are not as
practical, and is thusly featuring one plate dinners.

This dinner is being created with the Big Green Egg ceramic charcoal fired grill which acts like a convection oven and browns the toppings of the stuffed baked potato that is serving as the central focus , as well as the garlic and buttered French breads.

This plate consists of a background bed of Petite Gem lettuce, centered with a large cap of a Portabella Mushroom which has been pan sautéed with butter and garlic, then surrounded by pan sautéed button mushrooms and chopped celery, also in butter and garlic.

the center piece is the stuffed bake potato supplied by Omaha Steaks, with grand finale of crisp bacon strips fanned about and crumbled on top the potato, finished with a drizzel of sour cream and tomato based sauce.

Cooking out of doors can be creative and fun!

conducting testing on a variety of Photovoltaic Panels in preparation for the hook up of Grundfos deep well pump capable of being run directly from Solar Panels, making it the choice pump for the series, and for remote water pumping applications.

The Grundfos control panel was opened to check for wiring sizing.

Tests were conducted to see if the pump could be run off the power generated by a normal automobile battery, which did not have adequate amps to keep the pump running.

There was not enough power being supplied from one 130 watt solar Panel to activate the pump.

Next up will be configuring 5 130 watt solar panels in the 48 volt Xantrex Inverter and 8 Deca Gel Cell batteries that comprise the main power system to determine if the main system is adequate to power the water pumping from a 500 foot deep well, up the mountain to a water holding tank, and then up to the building site and water holding tank which will then feed a hot tub, and radiant tube heated floor of the Octagonal cement slab foundation, as well as additional holding tanks for solar heated shower and bath.
